Blacksheep, Namibia`s Newest Singing Sensation

Hip-hop-Kwaito Artist, Black sheep real name Naka Shimwino, is Namibia’s newest singing sensation. He recently performed at Gazza’s show in Windhoek and Walvis where he was very well received by the crowd. He has been the talk of town ever since. Exposé caught up with Namibia’s newest celebrity who not only sings but is a great dancer and comedian well known by his friends and fans for cracking jokes that leave your stomach hurting from “die-laughing”.

State name/Full name: Black Sheep/Naka Shimwino

Birth date: May 20

Place of Birth: Kwanza-Sul, Angola (SWAPO Camp)

Comparison/who you sound like: Apparently, sometimes I sound like South Africa artist "Zola"...But mostly, I sound like myself.

Musical Journey: I don’t have a musical journey per say, but I have been doing this in my mind for years, and that’s what counts.

Plans for 2009/The Future: I leave my future plans in the hands of the Almighty, I trust Him, more than I trust myself.

Producer: I like to mix things up a bit, so I have different producers for different feels...

Management: Lol (laughing out loud)....I manage myself...

Type of Music and why: I do kwaito and hip-hop (hip-hop-kwaito as some call it). I grew up listening to hip-hop, and kwaito just fell in. As being part of the few that listened to Namibian kwaito, and I felt it needed something, and someone different....

Highlights of 2009: Well, the fact that people actually woke up to know Black sheep. Although I don’t feel I did enough to sell the name, I still feel I’m heading in the right direction, where music and business is concerned. The rest doesn`t bother me.

Favorite artist: I have a lot, it would actually fill your page, ABBA, Beyonce, Madonna, Luniz, Mappz (lyrically, he is up there), Kriss-Kross, Lupe Fiasco, HHP, Prokid, Skwatta Kamp, and the most Obvious, 2PAC n BIGGIE.

Inspiring Quote: I don’t have any aspiring quotes, but I like to make them up as I go on every day.

Role Model/Hero: Heroes would be Namibia’s first president and Founding Father Dr. Sam Nujoma, Namibia’s current president Honorable President H. Pohamba and Nelson Mandela. They all stood their ground and fought for what they believe.

Special thanks: Thanks to the people that believe in Black sheep. I don’t want to call them fans, but friends rather because friends are the ones that care.

Motto in Life: Live your life.

Contribution to Namibian music industry: I always look and listen to learn. I have worked with a lot of musical geniuses, and I look to do a lot for the Namibian music industry. I can’t say much, cos I’m only crawling right now, but wait till I start walking and running.

Other comments/Special message or anything else you want us to publish on you: I’m not in this industry to take spots, I’m here to reshuffle the decks, and to level the playing field. I feel there are a lot of talented guys out there, but they just don’t understand that hip-hop kwaito is not just about boasting about who you can stab and taking someone’s belongings, and growing up in the kassie (ghetto), and having a deep voice. Try to make sense, but at the same time, let the people dance.

That’s Black sheep for you. To book him for your next show or interview, please call +264-81-149-8892 or contact him through his popular Facebook profile page at: http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#/profile.php?id=1050980633
