Denmark and USA take Namibian beef products
MEATCO’S sought-after Nature’s Reserve export meat products for premium markets will get international exposure soon.
Millions of television viewers watching the 2010 Soccer World Cup will be introduced to these prime products in a television series by a Danish supermarket group, which has a 40 per cent share of the Danish retail trade.
Following a visit by a Danish delegation to Meatco’s facilities last month, Meatco’s Senior Marketing Manager, André Mouton, said he was positive that the company would soon have access to yet another lucrative premium market.
“The Danish group aims to market Meatco’s Nature’s Reserve product under their ethical brand code. Ethics play a pivotal role in marketing nowadays, especially in the European Union where consumers are careful to buy products which may impact on their own ethics,” Mouton said.
“They want to be assured that the products they consume were produced in harmony with nature and that all aspects of animal welfare were taken into account.”
Other premium markets Meatco is already exporting to include the EU, Norway, the island of Reunion and South Africa, where Woolworths is selling the Nature’s Reserve beef brand.
Meatco is awaiting approval from the United States for beef exports to that country following an inspection of Meatco’s Windhoek abattoir late last year.
Preparations for entering the US market started about three years ago and processes and systems are now ready to start exports. The US has very strict sanitary standards.
Other Meatco beef products are exported to Zimbabwe, Zambia, Angola and some East African countries.
