Levite

Full name: Lukas “Levite” Haufiku

Birth date: March 30, 1984

Comparison: Qonja: many people seem to believe that lyrically in rapping and singing, Levite is in the league of the Kwaito artist (Qonja).

Musical Journey:

  • Started off dancing at a tender age, formed a dancing group called Converse Boys, of which Sunny Boy, also being a member.
  • When he gave my life to Christ in 2000 (became Born Again). While in high school he started gospel rapping with a group called J-Clan (Jesus Clan).
  • Feautred on D-Naff’s second album and also featured on his latest album.
  • He is busy working on his first album to be released in March/April this year.

Plans for 2009/The Future:

  • Release his first album
  • Graduate from Polytech this year with a Diploma in Journalism
  • Travel locally and international to promote new album
  • Tie the knot (with my virtuous woman of God)

Producer: 777 (Triple 7 - Impact/Arafat)

Management: V.E.E.M (Rachel Valentina Nghiwete)

Type of Music and why: Gospel Kwaito/Hip-Hop because I’m an urban missionary with a mission to reach the streets with the message of hope through gospel music. Gospel music is lively, it’s not just music, it’s music that reaches out to a destitute world, it carries life, sets the captives free, it’s created to minister to people from the heart and not just entertain, it’s a powerful ministry - it’s the Bible on a beat.

Highlights of 2008:

  • Started working on his first album (it was long overdue)
  • Celebrated his mother’s 60th birthday
  • Found his missing rib (his wife to be)

Favorite artist: Christ Movement & Family (a US gospel group), Cece Winans

Inspiring Quote: It can be done (which is based on Philippians 4:13)

Role Model/Hero: My mother who brought me up without a father.

Special thanks: God for carrying me through it all. My source of strength my pastors “Mama” and “Papa”, my family and friends who have always supported me and encouraged me.

Motto in Life: Push and Pray until something happens.

Contribution to Namibian music industry: Message of positivity, join fellows artists in addressing social evils.

New Year Message: Don’t let the downfalls of 2008 be the limitation of 2009’s opportunities.
